Mr. Hugh Moran is the Executive Director of the Ontario Petroleum Institute (OPI), an industry association representing companies and individuals involved in oil and natural gas production, gas and hydrocarbon storage, and salt/solution mining. The OPI’s primary objective is to encourage the responsible exploration and development of oil and natural gas. The industry has 140 companies producing energy in southwestern Ontario. Previously he served as the Executive Director of the David Thompson Health Trust, an organization established to help central Alberta communities enhance their capacity to raise funds for sustainable health care services; represented the salmon farming industry in Atlantic Canada as the Executive Director of the New Brunswick Salmon Growers’ Association; and managed the Ontario Gymnastic Federation as its Executive Director. His experience also includes leading a lobbying campaign in response to the closure of a Canadian Forces Base in Manitoba; chairing a Federal/Provincial Government Industrial Adjustment Committee to deal with the closure of the Campbell Soup plant; working on a hospital restructuring study for the Ontario Ministry of Health; and developing a strategic plan to position a not-for-profit recycling business as a leading-edge environmental and sustainable development company. Hugh has taken an active role in community public service throughout his career with the Canadian Cancer Society, Toronto Region, Portage la Prairie United Way, VoicePrint-National Reading Service for the Blind, Portage la Prairie Rotary Club, Portage Heritage Inc., Portage Industrial Exhibition, Canadian Real Estate Association, Manitoba Real Estate Association, Portage la Prairie Real Estate Board, and the Federal Business Development Bank. Hugh attended Brandon University, Université Laval and the National Institute of Broadcasting. Hugh has three grown children, enjoys the arts, reading, and is active in sports: hockey, slo-pitch ball, curling and golf.
