Interactive mapping is available through a web mapping portal which allows the user to zoom and pan mapping from the Assessment Reports and Source Protection Plan. A layer list is provided in the left panel after dismissing the disclaimer/license agreement. To access the layers, one can click the close link after reading the disclaimer. Clicking this link will bring the layer list up on top of the home tab which contains the disclaimer. You can always return to the disclaimer by using the buttons at the bottom left of the screen. By default the Source Protection Plan designated vulnerable areas are displayed. This layer shows which areas are affected by significant, moderate or low threats policies. These designated vulnerable areas are also the areas which the Provincial Policy Statement requires municipalities protect through the Planning Act.
The designated vulnerable areas layer can be turned off and other mapping layers mapping can be displayed individually or in combination. When viewing layers in combination the transparency slide to the right of the layer grouping can be used to make a layer more transparent so that layers beneath it can be viewed.
The Assessment Report layers provided include the vulnerability in Well Head Protection Areas (WHPA), Intake Protection Zones (IPZ), Highly Vulnerable Aquifers (HVA) and Significant Groundwater Recharge Areas (SGRA). These layers are provided to assist with determining vulnerability, and other information which can be used to assess the risk of drinking water threats Additional layers include livestock density, managed land and percent impervious. Different base mapping and air photos (currently unavailable) are also provided along with other mapping layers (such as roads, rivers and municipal boundaries) which assist with locating an area of interest. Other base mapping and areial photography (currently not available) options are also included.
The Location Info tool in the button bar at the top allows the user to inspect the information at a certain point. It will provide the layers and information at that point in the left pane. It will provide info from any layer which is active. Other tools are also available in the various toolbars along the top. The toolbar can be hidden or accessed by using the tool button below the toolbar area to the right of the window.
